How to make a paracord keychain?

A paracord keychain is a great way to add a rugged and durable accessory to your keys. If you use a 550 paracord, it is also a handy survival tool that can hold up to 550 pounds in an emergency!

Materials Needed:

Umbrella Cord (about 3-4 feet)

Key Ring or Mountaineering Carabiner

Scissors

Lighter (for sealing the ends)

Method 1: Cobra Braided Umbrella Cord Keychain (most common style)

Step 1: Cut and Prepare the Umbrella Cord

Cut two pieces of umbrella cord, each about 3-4 feet long (one piece will work if you're using one color).

Slightly burn the ends with a lighter to prevent fraying.

Step 2: Attach Parachute Cord to Key Ring

Fold the parachute cord in half and thread the loop through the key ring.

Pull the loose end through the loop (this is called a lark's head knot).

Make sure the sides are even.

Step 3: Begin weaving the cobra

Take the left cord and cross it over the center cord.

Take the right thread and place it over the left thread, behind the center thread, and through the left loop.

Pull the ends tight to form the first knot.

Repeat the same process, alternating sides each time.

Tip: Keep the weave tight and even to maintain a neat look.

Step 4: Finishing the Key Chain

Continue weaving until you reach the desired length (usually 3-4 inches).

Tie a final knot or tuck the end under the last braid.

Cut off excess paracord and melt the ends with a lighter so they don't fray.

Use a spoon or flat tool to press the melted ends against the braid to secure.

Your umbrella cord keychain is ready to go!

Method 2: Cobra Braid (Thicker and Stronger)

If you want a thicker and heavier keychain, add a second layer of knots to the first cobra braid.

Follow the same weave pattern, but cover the existing weave.

This will make the key chain thicker and more durable!

Additional ideas and customization:

1. Use two colors by fusing two sections of parachute cord together.

2. add beads or ornaments to the ends for a unique touch.

3. turn it into a survival key chain by adding a mini lighter or whistle.
