How to tell what's in a blind box?

Blind boxes are designed to deliver surprises. Some series offer fixed figures toy, while others only contain random figures. Collectors sometimes employ methods to guess the random designs inside. While these methods aren't foolproof, they can be somewhat useful.

1. Check the code or markings

Many blind boxes, especially those from POP MART and Funko, use codes on the box or packaging to indicate which series or specific figure is inside. These codes are often very discreet, like small numbers or letters printed in a corner, which can hint at which character is inside.

Before purchasing, search online for images or descriptions of the blind box series. Many companies release complete series lists featuring images of rare variants, which you can reference to identify the figure inside.

Some brands also offer dedicated apps where users can scan the box or barcode to access additional information about the included figure.

2. Feel the Box (Weight and Shape)

Weight: Sometimes, if the blind box contains a heavier figure (like a metal one or a larger character), you might notice a difference in weight. A lighter box could mean a smaller figure or one with fewer details.

Shape: Some blind box bags have distinct shapes. For instance, round figures make the bag feel more uniform, while tall or oddly shaped figures create noticeable bulges or edges on the blind box bag. You can identify a specific character or figure by touch.

3. Look for Packaging Clues

Some blind boxes feature small windows or holes allowing a glimpse inside. This is relatively uncommon.

Despite these methods, blind boxes are designed to maintain mystery—you can't know what's inside without opening it. This uncertainty adds to the thrill of discovering a “hidden” variant. Sometimes, focusing too much on tricks can make you forget the original fun.
